This evening President Dave called our
meeting to order at 7:10.
Tonight we had 17 members and guest attending.
Tonight we had 17 members and guest attending.
In the course of human events we had
made extra effort to line up a program presentation for tonight…
Dave had tried to have Gary Figgins make his presentation of building and re-conditioning bamboo fly rods – Gary couldn’t make it.
Dale had thereafter tried to make a date
with Ron Campbell to have dinner with us to discuss the fine points of Kokanee
fishing at Wallowa Lake.
Ron currently holds the World Record for the largest Kokanee caught…
in Oregon’s Wallowa Lake.
Ron was tied up with two out-of-town trials this
week.

Since Plan A and B had not worked to our
benefit, President Dave turned to Plan C, to show a fly fishing video on aquatic
insects from our club’s fly fishing library.
This is where we really ran into technical difficulties – our DVD projector failed.

So this evening we had an around the
room discussion of…
President Dave had addressed the group
via email a week ago, to bring thoughts to this meeting of things to do, and places to go
fishing in 2018.
Tonight we discussed things to do, places to go.
~ Diane brought to everyone’s’ attention
with a handout, that there was going to be a fly fishing ~ fly tying workshop
offered in June; and asking who might be interested in participating in that
program.
~ Steelhead fishing on the Walla Walla River
the past 2 weeks has been hot – anyone want to go fishing?
~ Steelhead fishing on the Wallowa River
should be getting hot in the next month with the ever present consideration of avoiding spring snowstorms. Also to consider is the need to take one’s own rock to fish from, as the fishing
crowds converge on that river prior to April 15th, can be rather thick.
~ Daniel mentioned that he and Robin had fished Nunnally Lake last weekend, with some
success. They found a good rigging for the large trout there was to use an
intermediate sink line with a Wooly Bugger and a Prince Nymph dropper.
~ Dave talked about Omak Lake when the
winter weather brakes. He found some good catching there last fall, before the
cold weather set in. Dave also mentioned that the Walleyes were spawning at
Lyon's Ferry on the Snake River right now.
~ Dale mentioned that it had been talked
about previously having a group outing to Indian Lake out of Pilot Rock, OR in
mid-June.
~ It was mentioned that once Bennington Lake is filled and stocked, we should again try to have some group catching outing at Bennington.
~ Dale said that when he received word from the Pendleton group of fly fishers making high lake outing plans, he would let this group know so we might join them.
There are a number of nearby Oregon lakes to jump in, once the roads are clear of snow.
Our meeting was adjourned at 7:50.
Our next meeting will be held at Smith's Family Restaurant on W. 9th Street in Walla Walla on Wednesday
18 April 2018.
Respectfully submitted,
