View of a New Year

This evening's meeting has been touch-and-go for about a week as our regular meeting location had over booked their meeting facility with another group and asked to move the Walla² Fly Fishers into a public dining room area. We did so and our program plans were therefore changed. We had 12 members present to discuss some New Year directions for our club.
Along with the dining group of club members, the later arrival of members sat around and began two or three discussions circles concerning fly fishing. At one end of the table came the discussion once again... of how to catch a steelhead. It was decided that some days it is tough.
More about this in a later blog posting.

President Tyson called the meeting to order at 7:30 pm. Discussed was the New Year collection of membership dues -$15 for individuals and $20 for family, payable to Walla² Fly Fishers via Treasurer Doug. This can and was done at the time of each meeting or by mailing to:

President Tyson, also asked for an election for new club officer(s) in February 2012, as he was feeling weary of being the club's chief officer. With Tyson's election call, it was then discussed the need to have an active club Vice President, which we haven't had since Tyson took his position last April. With a group discussion of the situation, Tyson said if someone would step forward and accept the nomination for VP, to help with the club's programs and activities, he would consider staying on as club President.

Also discussed was our up-and-down membership attendance since we have started having monthly meeting at Jacobi's Cafe. It was decided that we would beginning looking elsewhere for a regular meeting location with a steady available banquet room. Please watch for further notice
We also discussed the creation of a Program Committee to line up our monthly programs, which is now made up of Jim, Dave, and Diane. Suggestions for future meeting programs were:
  • February - Stillwater Fly Fishing Techniques and flies
  • March - Columbia Basin Bass Fishing on the fly
  • April - Fly Fishing in New Zealand
  • May - Fly Fishing in Alaska
  • June - 2012 Fly Fishing Fair
  • September - Steelhead fishing NE Oregon on the fly
  • October - Grand Ronde Steelhead Fishing on the fly
Speakers for these programs are currently being contacted for availability.

The creation of a Raffle-Fund Raising Committee was formed by Roz, Diane, and Bonnie to reactivate the monthly fly / flybox raffle, and look into a fund raising - 2012 guided fishing trip raffle with the help of Tom and his fishing guide connections in the PNW. We hope to conduct a 2012 Fly Fishing Fair at Waterbrook Winery this June. We hope that Scott will help with the establishing of this year's program as he has done in the past. We will again ask Skip if he will lead in our fly rod casting clinic for that day. We are hoping to set this year's event for the first of second Saturday in June, if Waterbrook Winery is again available. We are also looking for a DVD projector for club meeting programs/ presentations. When March arrives we hope to have some early stillwater club fishing trips lined up.

This is how we are viewing 2012 for the Walla² Fly Fishers, do you have any suggestions? If so please contact President Tyson or Secretary Dale by email--> WallaWalla.Flyfishing@gmail.com
The floor is now open for nominations for anyone wishing to step forward to fill the post of club Vice President.

This evening our meeting was adjourned at 8:38.

Respectfully submitted,
Dale McKain
Secretary
